But seriously, these kinds of posts are really kinda dumb. Run a search on any of these units, and you'll learn a lot more than you will from this post. If you're really clever, you'll search the web for professional reviews.
If I want to be called gay, I'll start a thread called :
"Anybody tried Studio Projects?" or maybe "SP C1?"
Keep in mind that probably none of us (with the possible exception of Harvey) have been in the same room with ALL these pre's, much less have enough experience with them to point you in the right direction. Many (most?) of the recommendations on this BBS are either from well meaning people who "heard somebody use it once," or (more likely) from people repeating the hype they've heard from others. And who knows if it's really true or accurate? A lot of it might have originated from marketing...
the above doesn't apply to me of course. I sleep with a Focusrite Red 7, a Manley Voxbox, an Avalon 737sp, and a Neve 1272 under my pillow. And I have all the other pre's you mentioned in my rack, too. I'm just too lazy to walk around my $100,000 console to turn them on...

hey cooljohn...if you really want to know about these things, this is absolutely the last place to ask anyone.for one thing no one knows a goddamned thing about the subject....and they think since its all been asked about before they're way too busy to be generous with their time and help someone.so either way you lose......try gearslutz or recording .org....state your business and the range you want to spend and someone will really give you a reallife reading on the piece you're looking for.....good luck.

Seriously, I think the suggestion of going for one 'coloured' and one 'clean' like the RNP and John Hardy makes a lot of sense or Great River and Grace?
I have not tried any of these pre's, but I don't think there is any doubt that they are all at least very good! The Grace is popular with Hip Hop guys I think?

i do alot of hip-hop using the fmr audio rnp.
i demoed the 101 but i wanted a 2-channel pre so I can use it as a DI for my roland xv-3080 and ensoniq/emu asr-x.
so I went with the RNP.
I have never, ever, ever used or demoed any of the other pres. i'm saving up for a new house, so I can't afford them.

I'd go for the mini me if you don't already have high end A/D converseion...the combination of the pre and A/D conversion will be way more beneficial then just a great pre and shitty A/D Conversion
