Here's the specifics:
I am attempting to get, basically, a lecture from an instructor onto a CD. So, the sound quality does not have to be great. The instructor would sit next to the computer everytime they wanted to record. My thought is to get the sound onto the computer hard drive, and then burn the file onto a CD.

What I have:
We currently have an FD-4 made by Fostex. The instructor claims it has been used in the past to record, but I'm not real clear on how that was accomplished, as it was 5 years+ ago (before my time). The computer has been upgraded since. The computer does not have a SCSI port on it. There is a Zip Drive, but it is internal. I do have a sound card with the digital input on it. I thought that might be worthwhile as I saw the digital output on the recorder.

Questions:
Should I even be using the FD-4? Would it be easier to just hook a microphone up to the computer and record that way?

Say I did end up using the FD-4. Should I use the digital out/in for the transfer? If so, do I need a special program on the computer to receive the input from the mixer?

Or, if I'm totally doing something backwards, let me know.

Thanks.
