Voice Problems

I dont know what it is but it seems like no matter what I can never get my vocals to stand out good in the mix....I record rap music...Everyone else I record I can make it all sound good but it seemsl ike my vocals always get lost into the mix and dont stick out enough...I dont know if its because its just my own voice and im use to hearing it or what that it dont seem right...I have a bit higher pitched voice then medium...Its not like really high or anything id say bit higher then medium pitched....Any parts I should eq more then? More or less Compression?

I would start by eq'ing your backing tracks to make some room for your voice. You could run just your vocal through a spectrum analyzer to see where the predominant frequencies are, then shave a couple of dB from the backing track in those ranges. Also pan any instruments that occupy the same frequencies as your voice out of the center of the mix. More compression can give your vocal some "pop," but too much will make it dull. Manually riding the fader to boost your vocal where needed is also an option. You might also try adding a slight bit of midrange eq to your voice to fill it out a little. Of course, without actually hearing the track, I'm mostly just guessing here.

Limit the freq range of your voice. Roll off the lower freqs, up to 200 Hz or higher. Compress heavily. Add a slapback echo (10-30ms) at about 30% mix.
