I have been using Sound Forge XP for about six months and found it very useful. However, I am mixing together some voice-overs for a project and need one VO to sound like it's on the phone. How can I make a .wav file sound like it's coming through a phone receiver? Is there a filter or setting, or is it time to get new software? Help please!

you can either use your mixer, turn the (hi's) knob till it's basically distorted, then fiddle around to get desired sound. or use an old mike, that usually works very well, at least that's how I did it last.

Try using your headphones as a microphone . . this should thin out voice about right.

Just a thought !

I dont know soundforge, but EQ the highs and lows out leaving only upper mids and add a bit of distortion...

I did basically the same thing that S8-N said. I have Cakewalk, and I used a mid-pass filter to disgusting lengths, and got the desired effect.

Have the person doing the voiceover call you on the phone. Stick the mic into the earpiece and record him.

convert the wav file track of the voice to an 8 bit 22hz file..

Eddie N's got the fastest method. Try 11KHz
for a little more degradation. But Hixmix
has the most realistic method- no pun intended. And just about any mic will work since the frequency response required is pretty limited.

Check your presets in your EQ in Soundforge.
I dunno about XP, but my 'real' sound forge has a Telephone EQ preset.. thats probably what you're looking for.
