Hi,

If anyone could give me directions here.

Would like to take out the lyrics/rhymes from a track.... Don't worry about copyrights and stuff :)
Technically - how do I do that in Cubase? Don't know if it is possible...

Cheers!

It's not usually possible to get a clean extraction from an audio file. This would usually require some kind of spectral editing.

Hello TMS,

As Bane01 mentioned, you need to go deep into the spectrum to find out where the voice is located and still it will not be 100% accurate.
I have done this with WaveLab, but basically I have searched a part that was the same and did not had any voice and with the help of the spectrum analyser I copied that part and pasted it on top of the one with the voice and that did the trick, but obviously it will not work for the whole song...

What I usually do when I want an instrumental track of any song, I download a MIDI file of it and import it into Cubase, then with some good VSTi you might get a decent sound.
If something does not sounds the way I want I usually just record it :P But that takes much more time.

Other than that... I do not know any other way.

Best regards,
GN

We can tell you how to deconstruct an audio file when you can tell us how to get all the sugar out of a baked cake.

Get a karaoke file of the song, there are cover bands that do that sort of stuff all the time.

Thank you for the info,
very useful indeed!

Checked the Wavelab, looks like a "must have" software.
And the prices are OK for the LE versions too.

how to get all the sugar out of a baked cake?
rinse the cake?!

There are also many sites to buy multitrack cover versions. Kinda depends on what you are looking for. I downloaded a couple from HERE for a audition for 'The Voice' for a client. You can pick and choose individual backing music and vocal parts.

Awesome info, guys.
I am glad I did open this thread.
A lot of new ideas which I could use for future recordings :)
Wavelab seem to be an awesome soft to put those finishing touches for the overall track sound.

Thank you very much!

It's basically impossible to do without slicing a pretty wide swath out of the frequencies in the song. The easier, much faster alternative is to pull up iTunes, type in "(song name) karaoke" or "(song name) instrumental" and then knock yourself out. Usually if it's a well-known song there will be like 10+ versions of it.

Thank you, guitaristic
I will look into it.

I guess, it would be easier and I would get better quality by finding someone to rhyme it for me and doing it from scratch.
