I realise this board is mostly music professionals, and that the basics of putting together a studio for voice and soundtrack and one for music are the same. What I would like to know is what differences are there for soundtrack studios? (Also, are there books on soundtracking movies and animated programs?)

Soundtrack work can involve scoring for Orchestra, which would require more square feet of studio space than for a smaller group of performers. Also,in post production the sound FX and noises and sometimes even dialog are enhanced/rerecorded,they call this Foley.Obviously, syncing to film is very important in this type of environment,as would be a reliable editing system.I can't name specific books, but you might want to try a web search for Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and see what you get.Cheers!
