I would like to purchase a vocoder but I am not sure of good cost efficent ones. if someone could help, it would be appreciated.

Try a microkorg - comes with a built in vocoder, user presets, and a built in microphone even.

seeing as how vintage vocoders have priced themselves out of the market... this is about as good as yr gonna get with analog

as far as digital, i have tried a few digital boxes, and have been less than happy with them. the best/cheapest come as plug-ins.
the orange vocoder is pretty good.
the logic vocoder if freakin good.
