Hi - I wd appreciate any thoughts on this: (and I have been learning my lesson of searching archives first - i just don't know where to begin on this one):

I need hotter vocal levels (I have ribbon mics w the internal Mackie mixer preamp trim crancked up most of the way). I use some compression , been looking into an exciter plug in... But I wonder if a preamp plug in is the way to go? If so I don't know if it wd add any coloring & I don't know where to begin...
thanks!!

I have a simple setup of the VTB-1 Preamp going into an RNC.
No issues with levels or control. Way more volume than I would ever need .Love simple stuff! The RNC gives alot of variety for me.

no such thing as a pre amp plugin

can't you just raise the volume on your DAW? or use a compressor plug-in?

thanks...

Thanks for replies. I'm confused re no preamp plug ins: None are listed under effects at the KVR site but if I do a search several turn up. Are they just to color the sound & not boost it? And yes I think I can turn up the trim on my sequencer.

a preamp by definition boost low level signals to Line level signals. So you couldn't record most mics w/o a pre amp.

Just raise the volume on your mixer, if thats not enough use a compressor and raise the gain on that as well.
