SOUND DIAGNOSIS

As a general rule, when adding a vocal track to an existing musical accompanyment track prior to mixdown , would one slightly adjust the volume levels on the musical track for balance, or adjust the volume levels on the vocal track for balance? Methinks the musical track should be subtly adjusted for balance whilst leaving the vocal track alone for the most part. Any ideas or suggestions/opinions welcome! Thanks ~~~Lee

I can't see where there would be one way more than the other. Either or both, since it's a new mix.
Yea?

I assume that it might be easier to ride the vocals than to ride the rest of the tracks... So if you plan to use a non-static mix, this might be a reason for the vox track...

So you guys are saying tailor your approach to the situation and the overall dynamics of the musical accompanyment?

i reckon,

get the vocal track volume right (able to be heard over the music through headphones but not so loud it is distorting) and leave the music volume.

Unless its so loud that you cant hear your vox.

just what i reckon.
