Heyyy

My studio is not an ideal recording space for vocals so I'm looking at investing in this:

Flexi Vocal Screen - Grace Acoustics Drum Screens - Music & Acoustic Solutions, Drum Screen, Guitar Wall Display Cabinets, Church Furniture, Communion Tables, Mixing Desk Cabinets, Church Supplies

Any thoughts? Anyone use one like this?

Any reviews online seem pretty biased so was hoping for some genuine opinions!

I'm just after a fuller, more contained vocal with minimal back ground noise.

Thanks!!

Brohnis,

Have a read through my VooDoo page & you will see that I have SE Reflexion filter listed there.... All of these type of screens can be useful, but their marketing is lies for the most part. IE; "The ideal portable solution for vocal recording in untreated rooms, or venues which lack sufficient acoustic control." These small screens can not block wavelengths larger than their surface area. The thin foam treatment will only absorb frequencies from around 800Hz and up.

- AND you still need to treat your room. NOTE: A cardioid pattern microphone exhibits a much reduced sound pickup from 'behind' the mic... right where this panel is supposed to help. O_o Put the panel behind the singer... in front of the mic...

You will get a better recording if you build large, thick absorbers to surround the vocalist. - And treat your room. You need treatment for mixing anyway.
Cheers,
John

I agree with John that most such "screen" products are BS. But the one my company makes is not because it's large, and absorbent, and our demos prove it really works:

RealTraps Portable Vocal Booth

But treating your room is still better when that's possible.
