I posed this in the mp3 forum, but then realized it may be more approriate here.

My favorite artist is singer/songwriter Howie Day... I am trying to record a vocal track that sounds similar to him on the track "Sorry So Sorry". My voice kinda favors his, but when I record, I can't generate that same sound.

I have a Digi001. PLEASE listen to the vocals in this wav clip. What kinds of EQ, EFFECTS, OR COMPRESSION are they using to get this type of sound??? Its very thick and dynamic.

Your help is much appreciated.

Ok berkleywoods,

I have an answer for you but you are not going to like it.

Ok, that singer has a really good and emotional sounding voice.

However, his voice is not created by recording tricks, micing, or any
kind of voice lessons what so ever.

His voice is simply that, HIS voice. His sound.

You will never sound like him.

At best you might sound like you, trying to sound like him.

Develop your own sound, I suggest from voice lessons,
and learn to live with the fact that your sound is unique only to you.

His sound is unique only to him.

GOOD LUCK !

I dont like this guys voice really,

He did 'Help' on the I am sam soundtrack didnt he.

You have to agree it is a very "thin" voice.

even so if this is what you want to sound like i suggest sing through your head a little more and make you're voice shaky when holding notes..........
I know its not what you should be doing, but hes trying to sound really emotionaly attached to the song. and its like hes JUST squeezing every note out.

He almost sounds like hes crying when he sings the held notes.

Try doing your vox track when you get up first thing in the morning, without warming up, that should do it.
