Is that EV still holding up to your expectations, Chili?

Hi, I have gigged fot 30 years with heavilye harmony orientated rock bands and have used many different makes and types of mike's the one that all the band members agreed on was the Shure Unidyne III (Which is now the Shure SM57) it has good solid bottom end good through the mid ranges and an excellent crisp top end is not in the slightest bit tinny. In our opinion it far surpasses the Shure Unisphere (now the Shure SM58) which is passable in many applications but great at none.... whereas the Unidyne III's (SM57's)are great for vocals and miking up and really tough.
I am still using the same 2 that I purchased in 1968, they've been dropped, swung around, hit amps and drums and even knocked out stage lighting in the ceiling and are still as solid sounding as ever. I still use them for miking up in the studio and when all the singers in the band use the SM57's the harmonies really sit together with a punch. Well that's my two penneth worth, take it or leave it.
Mikimogo.

the 58 is just the 57 with a ball on it.
I prefer the 57 to the 58 because the ball does attenuate the high end just a tad .... and they are workhorses.
But they're a very old design and have been surpassed by even Shure themselves with the Beta line.
The Beta 58 is pretty good but I prefer the EV's.
A lot of my gigging friends are going to that Sennheiser though.

Wow, Mikimogo!

Talk about a lurker. :D
You must hold the record here at HR. 13 years and you just now have posted your first post.

I feel honored that he was compelled to come out hiding to give me advice. Thanks Miko and welcome to the site, finally!! I used to own a 57 until I traded it with someone here for the 58. It was a good trade because I think the other guy is getting good mileage from the 57. And I really like the EV.

Yeah Chili - check out the EV dynamics. I like the RE-10 and the others that look like it. From what I remember about your voice, that's what I'd try. Congrats on the gigging!

^Agree!
