Hi,
I think I have a decent vocal chain now. (c1 into a Meek VC1Q)
Now that I can get a great vocal sound easily, I'm not as thrilled with my voice as I was before.
Has anyone heard of this antares Vocal Producer?

Looks good to me.........
Thanx,
C
:)

It's better to start with a good signal chain, things like the Antares box should be a last resort, it's probably the mic or pre that doesn't suit your voice.
If you give us more specifics we might be able to help.

I agree with Vox..What are you hearing that is different than before? To me if you cant record a voc with just a mic / pre /comp.{for peak control} , then you need to change something in the chain.or micing techniqe..This is my way and maybe not yours or anyone elses....

How well does Auto- tune and Mic Modeler work?

Actually, I'm very pleased with the vocal chain and the tone of my voice through the C1 and the VC1Q. I'm not pleased with the pitch problems, which I can heard even more profoundly with a good vocal chain. This box combines all of Antares products in one box for $499.00 plus a compressor, EQ, de-essing, auto double tracking, etc.! I was wondering what people's real life experiences were with this (or this type) of processor. How well does Auto-Tune really work?
They have examples on the site of before and after processing, and they sounded good to me, but I'm looking for real world advice verses marketing hype on products like this.
I know that it won't make a bad singer great, buy if it will correct minor pitch problems without sounding fake, I think I might be interested.
Thanx,
C

Oh I see..My experience with the autotune is with the software version..I used it in part of the post phase of prod... and for small corrections its fine..for the larger corrections you hear it work too much..so you gotta be close, like you mentioned..Check and see if the dedicated box is better for you than that multy{It may be lacking}...Still best to track without and apply later..It can play games with your pitch if you hear it while tracking YMMV...Good luck...

Thanx.
This is not something I would use during tracking, but might be a big plus on a lead vocal during mixdown , hopefully saving repeated re-takes. Just trying to get past the hype.

Carmen, the most reliable means to improve the sound of your voice is to
at least do some vocal warm-ups, and some exercises to gain a measure
of dynamic control. Two fine book with exercise CD's are "Set Your Voice
Free", by Roger Love, and "Secrets Of Singing", by Jeffrey Allen.
You can get both of these for under $75, a lot cheaper than Autotune.
Typically, within a month you'll see a major improvement.
If you have the time and inclination, joining a choir to get your vocal feet
wet, and then advancing to small group singing or soloing will speed
things up even more. Think of all the other gear you can get with the
money you'll save!

I agree!!!

Vocal training is the best thing I ever did. There is as much to learn about singing as playing any instrument. A live instructor is better but books would help I'm sure.

Vocals are more subjet to emotion and mood than any instrument. The things you learn about singing can go totally against human nature and can be very hard to master, but the rewards are awsome.

I bought the AVP-1 a month ago.

The only functions you can use when tracking is the mic modeler, de esser and compressor.
Auto tune can (should) only be used afterwards.

I don't use it for tracking at all since I like to have as clean signal as possible to start with.

But this unit is a real "magic box"

The lead vocal that was tracked last night was ok, but there where some notes that where out of tune and we weren't satisfied with the overall result.

We patched in AVP-1 and had the mic modeler, auto tune and compressor started.
Auto tune made it in tune and the compressor tamed the dynamics and the mic modeler made the voice stand out in the mix.
The end result was outstanding.
The AVP-1 turned a mediocre track into a pro sounding one!

Another thing is that singers that are "bad", who otherwise whould choose not to sing, can sound better. And that can make them overcome the fear of singing.
And everybody knows that practice is the only way to be better.
