Is it possible, and safe for my equipment, to plug a mic(sm57) into a Boss Xtortion pedal.

nope...not unless that pedal has a preamp in it... 
you could record the signal, then send it out through the pedal once it is a line level signal

Yes it is possible, but you need to have a "matching transformer" to convert the signal from the mic into something that the box can use. Available from RadioShack for about $20. They have one that has a guitar type output (1/4")
