VM-3100 midi question

I've finally gotten 'round to trying to implement the midi functions of my Roland VM-3100 digital mixing desk.
I thought I'd try the most basic thing first - using the transport bar to start/stop/rewind sequences in Logic. To make sure I wouldn't be foiled by cabling, I simply unplugged the line going into my control keyboard and stuck it in the back of the 3100. I then set System>midi>transport>sequencer, opened up Logic, ticked midi remote and hit play on the Roland. I expected either nothing to happen, or the sequence to play - but instead the transport bar in Logic responded (the buttons highlighting accordingly) but the sequence didn't play.
Has anyone managed to get this to work? I was imagining being able to send modulation changes to Logic from one of the desks sliders, but seem to have already fallen at the first hurdle.
Help!
Cheers.

Make sure you hit SHIFT + F1 on the VM to load the default Logic settings. Also use the VM3100 template for logic.

I use logic for digital audio but havent started sequencing yet. You do not need a midi chord from the VM to your computer if you are using the RPC card the midi is carried thru the interface cable.

My VM controls the transport with out any special settings other than the Logic defaults. You may need to tell Logic to listen to the RPC Midi Port if you have another MIDI card installed and it is listening to that one by default.

Thanks for the info, Tex. Unfortunatly I didn't get as far as figuring out what the VM3100 template for logic was, as pressing Shift+F1 had the same effect as just pushing F1 - which just calls up the out meter. Perhaps I should have pointed out that I have the humble VM-3100, rather than the VM-3100 pro. Would that make a difference? The fact that there IS a transport bar and midi-ports on the thing would suggest I could do something with them.
Any idea as to what else I might try?
Cheers!

There is a lot of help here http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rolandstudiopack/

search the forum and check out the files section. They have some templates there for downloading.

I havent hooked up a VM from scratch so I cant help you there.

You will probably have to use Midi Machine Control (MMC). There should be some good info there on that subject.

I'm being followed!

Hey Wigworld.
I followed that link after your suggestion in the sos forum, but there was scant reference to the VM3100, and no sign of anything to download for it. I'll check out the yahoo thing and see what I can learn.
Cheers.
And stop following me. ;)
