I have no expirience with playing drums. I have a little expirience recording them. I've got a nice big room with 20 foot slanted cielings. I've got an FMR RNP which is quite a decent little preamp, and for snare I've got a 57 and for bass drum a shure beta 52a and I'm also getting either an ADK Hamburg or an AT4050 which I could use for anything else.

Since I have the option between virtual and real drums, I should take the "live drums" option, right? I ask because I really have little expirience with drums, both live and virtual. I don't play them but my friend who is an excellent drummer has told me he would play drums for my stuff.

Thanks!

OK so you have a nice big room AND a good drummer. ALWAYS go for live drums if/when you can! You will learn a lot of valuable info just by trying.

I have to agree with RezN8. If you have the room go for it.

Put the AT4050 a few feet in front of the kit or a few feet above the snare and bang away.

A large part of good sounding acoustic (real) drums is the room. If you have wnat you believe is a good room and if you have access to a good drummer (hopefully) one who knows how to tune) - then real drums has to win out over virtual drums.

As already indicated - you can learn some good engineering skills by trying to mic a drum kit.
