Hi, I've noticed the Violet VIN67 capsules have really dropped in price recently - I was just wondering if anyone knows if they would be compatible with the Oktava MK012's body, or whether I'd have to buy Violet's own Global Pre or other body? Thanks!

Also, what are people's opinions on the other compatible capsules available from Oktava and other maufacturers? Has anyone tried the M1/M3 LOMO heads?

Also, has anyone used any of Violet's other mics? Seem to be very few objective user reviews anywhere!

You might have better luck just emailing your specific questions to Violet themselves. I'm not sure if this is still the case but last I heard(about a year ago)Violet wasn't directly selling their stuff in the US due to the nasty situation between them and Blue and considering the high percentage of US members on this board there may not be many opinions to be found over here. If you go over to Gearslutz.com you may have better luck getting some opinions on Violet mics due to the fact that there are many many Euro members over there. I have noticed a few people voicing their experiences with Violet mics so when you get over there just do a search for Violet. You may also want to repost your question over there as well.

Thanks, I've posted over there now - the forum on Gearslutz has been down for a while, but it's jup again now!

It's strange, I've found plenty of places in the US that have Violet in stock too when I've been doing searches for places to buy them, so I'm surprised that very few people over there (or anywhere!) have tried them yet. Even on Gearslutz, not many people talk about them. I'm guessing there might be some non-English speaking forums with opinions on them, but that's not much help!

In the end I have ordered a Violet Amethyst, looks like a great mic and the place offered a 30 day money back guarantee, so I thought what the heck, it's worth a try. It was the last one in stock and they were only asking 350GBP, which seemed too good to turn down! If anyone's interested, I could do some reocrding comparisons, since finding samples of Violet mics is a bit like finding a needle in a haystack...

I don't think the VIN67 will work on a MC012, as it's a bayonet capsule. It's meant for using with bottle mics.

Update: Violet Designs is selling through Full Compass, as well as others. The Flamingo Jr. is superb, one of the best mics you can get for under a thou, and the Globe Pre is a serious mic at a reasonable price.

Violet also seem to have a more active model release schedule than Blue.

I have no financial dog in this either way, but I don't buy a mic based on the personality of the CEO. At this point, I like Violet's lineup better than Blue's.

Cheers,
