My friend gave me this Reel to Reel recorder/player and I'm trying to track down some information on it, with no real luck. I was hoping possibly some one here could point me in the right direction, or better yet..have the facts themselves (old timers where are you)...here's what I do know about it,

Sears and Roebuck
Probably 1960's home use
2 Track

Model No. 3440
Built in speaker

It has no tape or AC cord so I'm not sure it even works, but it appears in good condition.

Thanks in advance.

t looks like an old Concord re-badged for Sears. For certain, it's a consumer machine and not worth spending much time on.

it appears in good condition.

Your pictures of it don't really support that statement as it appears to have multiple dents, dings, scratches and stains.

As far as who really made it, it might be any number of Japanese companies for the late 60's as it seems to share some design looks from Sony, Holiday, Akai and Dokoder.

But as RRuskin said, it's consumer machine and not a worthy candidate to restore and use in a recording studio.

It might make for an interesting piece of vintage brick-a-brack for those interested in collecting and displaying such things.

Cheers! :)

I knew it was consumer, hence me saying "Home use" in the description. I'm not looking to turn it into an Akai or TEAC by any means...quite the opposite, I obsess with sounds of that era and garage recordings, so the fact that is indeed a old home-bounder' doesn't make a real difference to me.

And when I say good condition, I mean all the knobs and switches work without a hitch and don't stick or seem wobbly, on the surface anyways.

Thanks for the facts though, hopefully this will help me track down more little facts about it. Thanks to the both of you.
