Mixing and Mastering.
I'm trying to find somewhere I can buy some Vintage 30 greenback speakers for my guitar cab, but I cant find them anywhere.

I can find VIntage 30s but not Vintage 30 greenbacks.

Anyone know where I could find this speaker on-line?

Cheers,
Eck

I found Vintage 30s and Greenbacks but not Vintage 30 greenbacks.
Cheers anyway.

They're two different speakers with different characteristics and ratings. You're on a search for a "tele-strat". Maybe you're actually on the prowl for a vintage (30W) greenback?

Paj
8^?

Yeah you have 2 options, vintage 30's which are 60 watt speakers or greenbacks which I believe are 25 watt speakers. There is no such thing as a vintage 30 greenback.

Thanks all. Silly me. :)

Im going for a heavy rock/metal guitar tone with tight thick lows, clean low mids, smooth high mids and nice clear high end thats not harsh.

Which should I get Vintage 30s or greenbacks?

Cheers,
Eck

vintage 30s. i'm gonna try the Hellatones from Avatar though pretty soon, they are just broken-in and re-labeled vintage 30's at a slightly lower price.

hellatones = great and Avatar is a good company to work with, ship same day you order usually.

"Broken in". so you mean pre used second hand?

Eck

I always buy from Dave at Avatar speakers. And the Hellatones are the ones to buy if youre looking at V30's. Ive gotten about 6 from him I think. They just exercise the cone so the initial harshness of new speakers is gone. Kinda like having someone with a press put weight over and over on a new matress so when you sleep on it the first time its not so stiff.

Cheers all.

not second hand, the dudes at Avatar just run the speaker through some sort of break-in process before selling, like H2H said above.

I don't get it though.
They get the V30s from their dealer then spend their precious time breaking in the speakers so that the customer doesn't have to, and they charge less!
I don't get the math!
I'm just not sure about this.

They're buying from Celestion exclusively, in quantity, and getting a great deal, and since the speakers are being relabeled, Avatar can sell them for less than their retail on an equivalent Celestion and everybody makes money (or in the case of you and me, saves money) and is happy.

Cool.
How long would it take typically to break in a new set of Vintage 30s roughly?

Cheers,
Eck

You can also buy regular V30's from them, or anything else because they ARE a Celestion dealer.
