does anyone know of some good dvd's that get involved in the recording process? Somethin that i can pick up some good tips from? Something like a studio documentrary.

another thread here recommended Tom Dowd and the Language of Music. Might be the closest thing you can find.

Don't get that learning to sing like a star thing from the Idol judges!

The afforementioned Tom Dowd DVD is supposed to be pretty in depth. I am going to see if I can order it off Amazon this week.

Isn't that on IFC tomorrow? Or was it tonight?

Amazon has 51 new and used copies of it. New is only $18.95. I am going to order it.

Yep. Sundance channel at 7:30am and again at 4pm. I'll only be able to watch an hour of it tomorrow afternoon though. NOTHING cut's into the Gilmore Girls reruns. ;)

Yeah, I don't deal with ebay. I can't find it to trust that site. Amazon is on par with them, but I've never had any problems with them so far...

Oh, yeah... I'll have to buy the DVD. No good channels like that here....

I FOUND IT!!!!!! (PM joke) Well I probably will have to buy the DVD too since I don't have a VCR to record it. But I've got a lot of DVD's that I have to order. The Pink Floyd one for Dark Side for one as well as a few others...

I was on Amazon today (I figured out this was the thread you were talking about when I remembered that we both had posted here), and I set aside that one and a couple books on recording. I haven't actually ordered them yet, as I have to make sure the wife paid off the card from the last dust collectors she bought...

Yeah, I cought the tailend of the Tom Dowd thing the other night, I saw the whole thing a couple years ago, It doesn't go so much in depth about the mixing-e.q. or anything like that, but is really good showing what it's like to be a real engineer/producer, what our role really should be, good stuff.

Even if it doesn't go into great detail, I still want it. I have always loved watching the making of FX shows and stuff like that. Gets my creative juices going. I am still going to get it...

Yes, it's very good, If I catch it I'll watch the whole thing again, it will get you to look at things in a different way.

I'm watching it now. It mostly shows a lot of old footage of sessions and talks about some minor things they did. But so far (1 hour in) there's really nothing that can be used in modern day recording. I do like the footage of some of the old great groups and artists though.

I placed it on order a few minutes ago. I also ordered "Mastering Audio" by Bob Katz... oooh, I can't wait for them to come in!
