Hi ... I just bought a Roland VG-88 and compatible Godin guitar. The unit is hot and I've sent it off for the V2 upgrade.

My question: How do I sent the MIDI out to my Roland JV1010 synth modual? I tried it the other day with no luck.

Is there a trick?

The vg-88 doesn't do that. It's not pitch to midi. It only uses the gk pickup to send your guitar siganl for each string into the vg. Once it gets there it's modeled not midied. I don't know how many people I've talked to that have mistakeN this for a midi unit. You'll have to get a gr series synth to do what you're wanting to do.

I think Roland dropped the ball on marketing what's probably the end all processor for guitar. The ads SHOULD have read something like this:

VG-88: Sounds Great, Very Versatile, NOT MIDI!!!!!!!

You can send and recieve patch information. Such as backing up or importing patches. You can find other people's user patches on vg8.com. You can also use an external midi controller. I used one with mine. It had five switches and an expression pedal. So it was like having five stompboxes and a rocker pedal because you can assign practically any parameter to them. I would have one that turned delay on/off, one that turned chorus on/off, one that activated the tuner, etc. Sometimes I would assign the expression pedal to control the virtual pickup selection so I could change pickups on the fly. Hope this helps.
