Does anyone have a similar set up? I thought I had something going. I was using s/pdif out from the VF to the audiowerks 2 card to record into micrologic AW2. Everything appeared to be working fine. The little recording dialog box came up and the track editor showed something but I coulodn't hear it on playback. I have all the manuals. In fact I have manualitis. A simple walk thru would help a lot. I can't seem to get over the hump.

Well it's a while since I used the fiendishly complex Logic, but I do remember thinking I was recording things (the bar showed activity) but found when I stopped that there was no take. When you say the track editor showed something - does a waveform appear in the audio track after you stopped recording. If so, then you jus thave a playback problem - soundcard settings etc. ( remember you have to de - prime the channel for recording before you can listen to it) If not, then you are not capturing it, and from memory I think clicking the play button after hitting record may be the answer.

Sorry not to be more help - it's been a couple of years.

Yes....

A waveform (the proper technical term) does appear, but it seems really tiny when compared with the waveforms that show up in the demo song. I'll try again. I'm guilty of concentrating on other things when I run into technical setbacks. like focusing on writing or arrangments or playing where results can be seen more directly. Well, back to the manuals.

Oh, Garry BTW, I also have protools LE. Is that easier to learn?

Totally echo your feelings on delaing with technical setbacks!!

I find the AW2 with SPDIF gives me a perfect rendition of whatever was on the VF80 (albeit I use wavelab on a PC, but that shouldn't make a difference - Logic should if anything be better).

Apologies if I'm teaching my grandmother, but I have noticed with the VF it is absolutely critical to get the tracking levels right, with the playback bars peaking consistenly between the two dotted lines. I use gentle compression on everything going in to help with this. You get puny waveforms otherwise, so is that the problem?

(Edited to add that I know nothing about Protools, sorry. Logic is very good but I found the whole environment and MIDI set up thing to be a complete brainfuck.)

No apologies needed. However, my tracks were HOT (as you said peaking while tracking). When mixing to tape even though I did 'ride' the faders slightly in the mix everything came out loud and clear on the tape. This puny waveform is a result of something I'm doing when recording s/pdif into AW2. When I find out what I'm doing wrong I'll post for others benefit.
