Hi...A newbie here with a question about phanthom power. Can I use 2 phanthom powered mics with one of them using power from an outboard pre-amp??? Then use the VF160 power for the other one?? Will the board power hurt or cancel out the power from pre-amp?? Would it damage the mic that is connected to the pre-amp in any way??Thanks in advance...Regards, Lonnie...

I have a VF160, and yes you can use the VF160 pre and an external pre at the same time, just be sure the pre on the Fostex is off on the track you are using the external on.

Thanks for the reply mrmope....I thought that when you activated phanthom power on the VF it was for both tracks. Meaning it is either both or none.. How does one activate just one of them and not the other??? Regards, Lonnie..

Phantom power affects both xlr inputs together. It cannot be 'on' on one and 'off' on the other at the same time.
I don't know if the preamp will be affected by PP on the VF - but I think there could be a problem.
You could connect two mics to the VF and power both of them simultaneously.

Mike

Just have the preamp signal from the externally powered mic go into the 1/4" socket on channel 7 or 8 (or indeed 1-6). Phantom power only goes out the XLR inputs.
