I am using my friend's vf160ex to record his demo. We have been having trouble where tracks that we record just disapeer. Sometimes nothing is on the track or sometimes something else that is old is one the track. For example on track 9 we recorded organ. We decided we didn't want organ and we recorded harmonica over it. Now the harmonica is gone and the organ is back. Any ideas? This demo needs to be done in the next few days and this disapeering track stuff is really starting to make me mad.

If you hit the undo button, then the track you had recorded prior returns.

Yeah, but that will not help with this. The problem is that it is fine after we record. We listen to it and it is fine. Then we go back a few days later and the song is gone.

the only time a track goes back to what was recorded before is when you hit undo... at least for me.

You are always recording with the record direct button?
I can't think of anything else, but possibly if you had a record protect on that maybe is bringing it back. Sounds like you recorded a virtual track or something.

yeah and it gets wierder. Some of the tracks that don't show up on the recorder do show up when I burn a cd, but not all of them.
 
Sounds to me like there's a corrupt file allocation table or something similar.
I think you should save your work then reformat the drive. Go for a full format (maybe overnight). You can then re-import the song, or just the tracks you want.
Also make sure there's plenty of unused drive space, weirdness is common on drives which are nearly full.

Ok you say I should save the songs. I am guessing you mean burn cds of them. Is there a to save songs on the recorder? I thought they automatically saved themselves.
 
When I said 'save' I meant make a backup of your songs, and yes burning to CD is one way to do it. You can burn a backup in either in FDMS3 format (which will save the tracks and the setup information) or in WAV format which will just save the track info.
After you do the format, you can re-load your songs from CD.
