I purchased a VF16 about a year ago. I really enjoy the simplicity and the quality of the recordings. I am now at the point that I would like to transfer the program files to a PC for final mix and burn to a CD. I want the more sophisticated abilities availble for mixing on the PC than is available on the VF16 itself (i.e. more effects etc.)

What process is the best and simplest way to move these files to my PC to use a program like CuBase or Cakewalk or something similar?

If you know of a recording/editing software that you prefer over Cubase and Cakewalk please let me know that as well.

Thanks for any help or advice someone might be able to give me.

Also any tips for recording acoustic instruments would be appreciated as well.

VF-16 Info

Steve

I also use a VF-16 and am very new to all of this. I have not got to the point where I want to download to a PC just yet. I would reccomend another forum at http://pub15.ezboard.com/bvf16. It deals only with the VF-16 and has been very helpful to me. Check it out and join us.

OOPS!! Bad Link

My link in my previous reply did not work. My 333 minute time limit to edit expired so I am trying again.

Here goes: http://pub15.ezboard.com/bvf16

The link picked up the period at the end of the sentence as part of the link. Hope this one will work for you.:D

I've only had mine a week... lots of info at v-16.com in their forum seems like the only ways to export wave files is throug the scsi port with a 1-2 GB Jazz drive or a Plexwriter 12/10/ t CD-RW the only cd-rw approved for the V-16 ... I will be expirimenting with the S/PDIF as I'm getting a card soon ... Don't know if it works, but it doesn't export WAV . Jim

I've got a VF-08, which I believe is fairly similar to the VF-16. What I do is record my parts on the VF-08 then transfer them to the PC via a S/PDIF cable into an Audiophile 24/96 card. I hook the MIDI out of the VF-08 into the MIDI in on the soundcard, then use MTC sync so the PC records when the VF-08 plays.

I only do one mono or stereo track at a time (depending if the original track is mono or stereo), but with the MIDI cable keeping everything in sync each time, the tracks all line up great on the PC.

A few things to note that I figured out through troubleshooting -- first, I use the 30fps nd setting for sync frame rate. I also have the computer "free wheel" after getting the original start time from the VF-08. I was having problems with the computer slightly slowing down the .wav file otherwise, which led to distorted sound. Also, I set the offset on the VF-08 to 23:59:57 or so, letting the computer start up about 3 seconds before the VF-08 plays to make sure I capture the start of the track.

I hope that isn't too wordy, but it should help alot. If you want to hear a few songs I recorded on the VF-08 (using its on-board mic preamps and a Studio Projects C1 microphone for most of it) go to www.nowhereradio.com/leahkim/singles

Good luck with it.
