I received a Cubase DVD with a purchase of my Korg D-888. I do not have a dvd recorder on my computer, but my wife does. I do have cd recording capabilities on my computer. Can I record the dvd to cd on my wifes computer so I can download the Cubase from a cd to my computer?

My computer is a compaq presrio. It has both dvd and cd, but the dvd on it is for movies and music, not data.

thanks

the dvd on it is for movies and music, not data.

I really don't mean to be rude, but there's no way that's correct. 100% of all DVD-ROM hardware is 100% capable of reading both data and movies - it's the software that may/may not lock one or the other format out (like how you can't install Cubase using a Panasonic home theatre DVD-Player rigged up to your PC is ONLY because of the software or firmware in that machine, NOT because it's a different device.) I have never, in my experience, which is quite extensive with the relevant technologies, I suppose, heard of a PC DVD-ROM drive being released/produced with firmware that does not allow data disks to be read.

If you can't see data when you insert a DVD with data on it into a DVD-ROM drive on a personal computer... your software/operating system has *fundamental* problems that you might want to remedy before worrying about other things.

That said - it is legal under the DMCA to make backup copies of digital media for your own use, and in this case you only need to make an image of the DVD, convert the image to a CD image and burn it on the CD - all of these things can be done with the free and open source software "IMGBURN" - So it's not illegal or impossible, assuming that the image will actually fit on a DVD, which it probably will not, or they would have saved a couple of pennies and used CDs to press on instead of DVDs to begin with.

Good luck? :D

100% right

Thanks,

I am having serious problems with both cd and dvd drives on my computer. Now I cant even run my cd drive either. I have the latest windows version and a compaq presario computer which is only about 5 years old.

thanks very much.

I'd recommend trying the following solutions:

Check for driver updates for your DVD drive. As TyphoidHippo said, if your DVD drive won't read data discs, it's probably a software issue (or possibly a hardware failure considering what you said about CDs having problems too.)

See if there's a downloadable version of the software available from the company website. With a lot of modern software, it's really easy to get a hold of the software itself, but you need a valide license (which should have come with your install disk) for it to work.

....computer... is only about 5 years old.
Unless I have failed to read between the lines, you are running Vista on a five year old box.

A five year old computer is... in dog years... decrepit, ancient. Unsuitable for Vista if that is indeed your OS.
