ok, ive got my mic connected to my lead > which is connected to the back of my mixer > which is connectd to my tower via usb. The mixer is switched on. I go on cubase and the mic doesnt seem to pick up any of my guitar. I dont understand how im going wrong and getting very annoyed!!   :(

How about the mic signal at and from the mixer's out put -ok?

the lights arent going up on the mixer itself when i play my guitar, which isnt a good sign is it?

try talking into the mic. do you see any LED (meter lights) action on the mixer?

does your microphone need phantom power?

is it plugged into the right channel?

is the gain up?

is there a mic/line input selection?

how about a few details...microphone and mixer type...??

first solve the mixer problem.

tap the mic to check. this should put a nice loud click, which should show up on the lights

try turning on phantom power (has to be XLR)

try turning up the gain (not the level, keep that one at 0db)

make shure all settings are set in the middle position (EQ, ect)

is the channel muted?

some mixers have a button that you need to press to turn on the meters

cubase problem:

is the mixer installed (drivers)

is the mixer selected in cubase (under vst inputs, I belive)

make shure the correct channel is selected.

hope this helps

(please note, I've never used a usb mixer before)

there should have been a cd with your mixer with a driver on it. you should beable to pop it in and follow the on-screen instructions.

or it could be self installed, in that case go to controll panal/system/hardware/device manager, and see if your mixer is on the list and if it is and has a little yellow exclamation mark beside it you need to install a new driver. (which you should beable to find off the web.)

it would help if you tell us what type of mixer it is.
than I might beable to give you better instructions

yamaha mw12, so i should have got a cd with it?

edit - it is a usb, but according to their website, it doesnt need any drivers to be installed.

make sure youre monitoring through cubase. Even if you dont install drivers, your computer should still recognise a USB device is attached; it always says ''new usb device detected'' or something like that.

What microphone are you using?
Regardless of the computer interface side, you should see signal coming into the board.

Check all the "input" steps:
Does your mic need phantom power, if so, is it on?
Do you have the input gain turned up?
Is the Channel "On"?
Is the channel fader up?
Is it bussed to the stereo fader?
Is the stereo fader up?
Are the meters set to read what's going to the stereo fader?
