started a couple weeks back with a tascam 4 channel.the reason I'm writing is because I cant get a good recording on channels 3-4.everything I record there has robbed some of the music on channel one or vocals from channel two.Wanted to know how I can record on these channels without channel 1 or 2 getting into 3 or 4.I know its prob very basic but hey I just stated out....

Yo BB2674:

From what you say, and my former experience with the Tascam 488, I think you are overdubbing your tracks. If so, you need to put each recorded track into the CUE mode when adding another track. If you don't do this, all kinds of funny things will happen to your tracks.

Check out the CUE MODE function in your manual.

Like, if you record drums and chords on two tracks, 1 & 2, you need to put these tracks into CUE mode to add track 3, and then put 3 into CUE mode to add track 4.

Cue mode lets you hear the track as loud as you want. You don't need to worry about balances until you mix down to the two-track stereo.

If you are bouncing tracks, well, you really can't do much that sounds good because you lose the ability to tweak "individual" tracks once you bounce them.
