Hey, i bought a sansamp gt-2 so i could fool around with barebones recording and aid in the composition process, as i've been writing stuff with multiple guitar parts/harmonies/etc, but as i've been fooling around, i've gotten discouraged because the quality of the recordings (though fine just for composing purposes) just ....well, it just doesn't do justice to the songs, as everything is muddy (multiple parts) and the guitar tone is terrible. So anyway, i've been getting frustrated, so i was wondering if anyone can give me any suggestions for getting the best possible recording out of just a sansamp gt-2 going straight into a stock (riptide i think) sound card, and into n-track. i'm really not concerned about finding a tone that i like, or my own 'sound' at all. I just want a decent sounding recording so i can clearly hear all parts of my songs. If anyone can give me any specific help as to how i can get a good recording, i'd really appreciate it! Style of music is more or less heavy metal, so any heavy metal type sound will do. Thanks!

BTW, extra gear is pretty much out of the question right now. just not an option. the sansamp really is gonna hafta be it!

Never used the thing, but I'm assuming it bassy, muddy and probably transitor-y all at the same time, especially when layered? Try sweeping and cutting 3-4db around 200-350 hz and see if that helps. Move the Q around til it opens things up. I suppose that n-track has the amenities of a parametric EQ, right?

I use a tube compressor before it and a tube pre going out to my hard disc, trimming back the low eq to about 50% and leaving the high 100% will give you a clearer tone if you are using british high gain. thats good enough for rock n roll. Dont give up on the GT2 some of us rate this better than the pod because it uses circutry for the modeling instead of DSP.
