flat-9: Glad you like! Means a lot, coming from you (always ashamed of my ' lefthanded-four-fingered-I'm-so-glad-there-are-computers-to-help-me' keyboard playing, especially when real masters like you are around ;) ) Thanks a lot! I hope I can make the drums fatter, but I doubt whether I can pull it off. Everybody thinks it should be fatter, but no one has an idea HOW! Argh! :D

PM me !

What kind of PC do you use & do you have access to
C.E P. currenly? Be glad to help w/some drum suggestions esp w/ all the shit we've been thru together.

You know I am not a tech by any stretch but ,thru trial and error have found some neat little editing tricks w/ CEP that you'd have a ball w/!!!!!!!!!

I love you too Bean,

Man...I am groovin to this one!!!
I dont know what he is saying
But, I am groovin to it!!!

Thanks people....

Hey, I've got a question: how many of you think I should replace my (badly timed) guitarsolo for a sax solo by Lt. Bob? Perhaps (well, I'm sure) he can do interesting stuff during the song too!

I don't know how to make a poll of this. I'm not sure whether this question is appropriate anyway, it will keep this song on top of the page while it's been there for too long anyway...I should make some room for other people.

But I am interested in what you think!

I think the solo guitar (wah/distortion) could cut through a wee bit more.

Lt. Bob is a very good sax player, but I also like your guitar solo. It's your call. :)

Having Lt. Bob add to a recording is never a bad choice!

Pedulist, sorry it's taken me so long to get around to this one. But I'm on dial-up, so I only do one or two songs a week.

Nice stuff. If I recall this is done with an Audigy and Homo Studio? You're getting good mileage out of that equipment. Next time I tell someone to junk their SB Live, they're gonna tell me to go listen to your stuff. :D

The vox are pristine! The lead sounds great and "in your face" and the harmony is right on as well.

What mic did you use. Also, did you compress the vocals while you were recording? I can't figure out how you got such proximity if you didn't compress. Singer's got a real nice voice, and good intonation.

Good listen. Thanks.

Groovy tune, yah the weakest link is the percussion. This song seems to be jumping out for some tambourines or shakers in the background. Since the snare playing isn't that elaborate you could probably phatten it a tad by layering another snare over it. I think a 808 type snare (analog) would sound good blended with this one. I agree you don't want to phatten the snare too much, but try layering another snare over it and see how it sounds you may be surprised. Good stuff!

Hey Ped, this is great! :D :D :D

Three smilies up!

You must learn me how to make those beautiful vocal harmonies! They rock! And that dirty e-piano is good!

And... all is good! :)

Jeez, this thread never dies! Thanks people!

alibish - You're probably right...I'll try to write a new tune, hopefully in desperate need of a sax solo :) I really want Lt. Bob to play on a song of mine! (if he still likes to)

erichenryus - That's what I said... :D

dachay2tnr - Thank you! I like to push my setup to its limits, yes. Although I've got a feeling I'm slightly outgrowing (mainly) my soundcard these days. Time to invest, I'm afraid...:D

I used a Shure BG5.1, a Joe Meek VC3Q compressor and singer who likes to push his mouth as close to the pop filter/mic as possible.

homeuser - Thanks for listening (where's the brutality? :D ). Will try the tambourine bit...I have one laying around. :)

moskus - Hei du! Glad you like! The dirty Rhodes is actually a free soundfont (Rhodes MK1, it's on the usual soundfont pages), run through LiveSynthPro, distorted by Ohmforce's Predatohm (sorry for spamming, but I urge anyone to check out their stuff...brilliant software...especially their delay, Ohmboys). About the harmonies....well, practice...and practice......and practice........and try out a lot.........and don't forget to be really, REALLY, hard on yourself (not to the point of hitting yourself, but you know what I mean....don't be lazy, sing GOOD!)

Very cool use of rhythms on this. The live drumming really sounded nice on this, though I think you are right about the "real kit sound" verse "sampled sound" --- but that is alright since the feel is definitely there.

I love the style of the tune. It almost kind of reminded me of Steely Dan in a strange way...and I like the direction the song takes. That piano really holds it all together. :)

Great vocals btw

:)

Very nice mellow tune. I liked the vocalist and i can defintely agree with the cross between Jamiriquai and Michael Jackson.

I liked the song and found myself very relaxed while listening even though I don't speak Cantonese.

Good tune... like the guitar work...2:40 something, the chord progression could be tweaked alittle, like something jittery to bust back into the groove. Yeah thats the word, this song freaking grooves! Downloading it now so i can get a better feel for it!
Great stuff.

Bass is sweet. Like the organ/keyborad thing a lot as well. Creates the mood nicely. Vocals are great - melody and tone. Lyrics rock - OK so I have no idea there. Drums need some help, but can't contribute much at this point.

Great listen.

OK, guys...I've just posted a remix! I tried to double the snare but it sounded godawful. So we just have to get used to this sound, I'm afraid...it's not really bothering me anymore, btw. And it's soooooooo much better than my first (programmed) drums.

Verlegen second mix

Fixed:

-the 'stutter' at 0:20
-bass is mixed louder and has a more punchy sound
-managed to make the snare a bit more snappy
-made the background vocals more 'background', less lead
-mixed the screaming ad lib vocal in the end a tad softer and controlled the mids...

Ped, I loved this song. Really excellent work. Unfortunately, the drums were the only disappointment. Programming was fine, I just wanted them phatter.

Addition of sax would be awesome, but I'd hate to see you cut out that tasty guitar work.

Errrrrr, shall I tell my drummer? (it was played by a human being called Walter, in realtime on a DDRUM set with real cymbals)

Thanks for listening, Twist. :)

As I said, I can't get the drums any fatter than this. Walter spent quite some time in his part, it feels wrong to replace his hard work for something else (as some suggested).

I'm currently writing a song which probably needs a sax (hard rockin' reggae, does that make sense? :) ), so I think it'll work out fine (if Lt. Bob could be so kind). So I'll keep Verlegen as it is. Thanks for your comment about the guitar work, that one pulled me over.

Real smooth mix. Like I said before, the harmonies are very tight and sound great. Real good singer. I liked the keyboard part. I wonder if the keys would sound better with a little more presence (i.e., a little EQ boost somewhere in the neighborhood of 3hz)? I of course can't tell for sure, but maybe play around with it and see how it sounds.

I love the way it gets more powerful at 2:50 and the guitar part that leads up to it. In fact the whole section after 2:39 is just terrific. I didn't comment before on how well everything sits in this mix. But it's very good.

Something small at :33. Some sort of click, but I think it's the vocalist. Probably not worth worrying about. A few of the "P's" border on being "overly plosive" - if that's a word. But again, real small.

I think the skip from before was at 1:46. Much better. I didn't notice it on first listen. Caught it the second time, but probably because I was on the lookout for it. I think it's close to right on now.

Good song and a good mix.

Wish I could here this but I can't stream here at work. Maybe you can make it downloadable? :D

It is, but only for members (I've got my reasons)

TripleM, yes there are still a few spots where the stutter happens. I'll go through the whole track and fix it for ya. :)

Something small at :33...I have NO IDEA WHAT IT IS. I'm hearing it too, I've muted and solo'd every track, but I can't extract what it is. It only occurs when all tracks play at the same time. Damn :( So I can't fix it for ya!

I'll try to play around with the frequencies on the fake Rhodes/Wurlitzer part. I might fix it for ya!

:D
