How hard is everyone hitting their drums? I've always beat the hell out of 'em, but I just watched that Rolling Stones concert on HBO, and Charlie was carresing 'em, and it sounded GOOD! I know- it's in the wrist, the snap, the soundman, all that, I was just curious what everyone else thought.

well the reason for that is because the drums had mics on em,so if you hit em soft the register loudly depending on the volume.

and/or he was probably hitting the rim of the snare

pp is about 3/4" off the head. f is about 2.5". fff is usually about 4" off head. That is my general rule. I usually play about 3 inches above the snare. Yeah, hitting the snare with normal velocity but positioning it where it hits the rim also creates huge volume.
