How does Vegas 3.0 compare to Cubase, Logic & Sonar? Does it have ASIO support? VSTi support? Would it make sense to use Vegas just for audio or is video its strong point?

I've tried Cubase, Logic, and Sonar and found their interfaces to be somewhat cumbersome - especially Logic. I think the issue is the apps are too caught up in trying to look like a console instead of looking like a computer application. Vegas looks like a computer app through and through, and I love it.

Anyway, I don't believe it has ASIO, and I know it doesn't have VST support, though I believe both of these are on their way to Vegas as they've been recently added to Acid.

Vegas Video's core is Vegas, when it was just an audio app. Sonic Foundry just added video functionality on top of it, so it functions quite well as an audio app. I did some video work with it for the first time last week and found it was incredibly easy to use - same as working with audio. I heartily recommend Vegas.

One other major difference between Vegas and the others you mentioned is no midi. However, I don't use midi and I just finished mixing my first full length on Vegas and highly recommend it. I just wish I had upgraded my PC/sound card because 24+ tracks with many processor instensive plugins really pushed it.....but Vegas was solid.

I'll have to agree with the other people about using Vegas if you don't need midi. Most intuitve interface out of any of the others I've tried, and it doesn't gobble up as many resources either. If you have VST plugins, then there are a couple different wrappers that allow you to use them in Vegas (as DirectX).

Highly recommended!

yes! i have vegas 3 and acid 3. acid 3 does not have much in the line of midi, but it looks like acid 4, which has just been released, has alot more midi support, including piano roll editing. i highly recomend vegas. my costomers are constantly amazed at how fast i can perform processes and edits. it is because of the straightforward nature of vegas' interface. it makes me look really smart. hahah!

Vegas is Fu**ing awesome...... The time you save in editing is worth it alone........ I've tried them all and they all serve a purpose and have strenghts and weakness...by IMO Vegas is on a whole alot easier to use and manipulate
