Hi all
I've just joined up and need some help with signal paths with my vdrums, guitars, mp3 player and a mixer.
I used to be pretty knowledgeable about recording gear but have been out of the loop for a long time, so need a bit of a push in the right direction! Hope you can help
Scenario 1
I have a Roland TD6 VDrum kit which I've been intending to use with friends to have 'headphone' jams using guitars and mp3 players etc.
In the past I've successfully used the 3.5mm line in on the Roland module to play audio from an MP3 player to mix with the VDrums all via the headphone output.
Problem 1
I recently tried to plug in a guitar into the line in, using a 3.5mm splitter. When doing this the guitar level is ok, but when turning on the mp3 player (in the same 3.5mm splitter), the level from MP3 seems to 'block' the signal from the guitar - the guitar disappeared completely.
Scenario 2
Secondly, I recently purchased a small mixer (Alto ZMX 862) to try and overcome some of the above.
Problem 2
However when plugging in either my VDrums, or MP3 player (haven't tried a guitar yet) into a channel's line-in 6.5mm jack input, the sound is very distant and reverberant.
I suspect both issues are something to do with either stereo / mono cables / input configurations, or maybe balanced / unbalacned cable issues.
From my description, can anybody help figure out how to get this working properly / which cables I need?
I/O in setup
Roland V Drums
3.5mm jack headphone out (stereo)
3.5mm jack line in (stereo)
6.5mm jack line out (mono? L/R) - not using this
Alto ZMX 862
Channels 1 and 2 have a single XLR and 6.5mm jack inputs (guess mono?)
Channels 3/4 and 5/6 have x2 6.5mm jack inputs each (guess stereo?)
Cables
Currently using 3.5mm stereo jack cables from vdrums to mixer, with 3.5 -> 6.5mm adapter to mixer channel (have tried both Ch1 and 2 (mono?), and Ch 3/4 5/6 (stereo?)
