Okay, want to make a cab to run my VJ into (it's the combo version), but I have a quick question:

It's five watts, so can I run this into two 12" 35 watt RMS seakers? Or will 35 watt speakers require more power to get them moving than my little 5 watt amp can give?

What is the general rule for matching speaker ratings to amp ratings? I know you can get away with relatively high rated speakers on lower power amps...

Thanks.

(Btw, I understand impedance, so I'm okay on series/parallel wiring, ohms, etc)

I don't think there are any rules with matching speakers (by their power ratings) to amps. It's all about the sound you're going for.

I heard something along those lines - that's cool, Jensen Mod 35 watts it is; I've read up on them.

heard a 12" Eminence that sounded good this weekend. Sealed cab. single.
of the four that one I felt sounded the best. the radio shack 12" sounded the worst, unless you want real muddy sounding tones, then it was the best one....HAHAHAA :p

Only rule with power ratings is how easily you want the speaker sound to "break up" when you crank it. I plug my VJ into a 200w cab because it sounds great and I dont like speaker breakup....

The power rating of the speaker is not how much power it requires to drive it, it is how much power it can absorb before it starts to sound like it has reached its limits....

I drive a Carvin 10" 200 watt closed cab with mine with no problem.

Excellent, thanks for the explanation - I have often wondered about this. Maybe I'll read up on some higher rated speakers. Thanks again for all the help, people, I'll let you know how the cab works out.

I have the head

and I want an 8" to go with it. Any suggestions?

Jensen C8R isn't bad for $23 bucks..... not my favorite, but better than the stock speaker that came in the VJ, even if it was a little Weber custom jobby...
