Knows very little
first of all. i am only asking this because i track my drum tracks at someone elses setup with their drums, and there is usually not time to be messing around with different things. its usually, get in, get out. then i go back to my house and mix everything.

so, do you think it would be a good idea to try out on a track?

i was thinking since its a bit darker sounding and warmer, that it may be worth a shot. if not, ill just keep to what he has set-up most of the time and not fiddle around with everyhitng, being as i would aslo have to unhook my pre, bring cords, hook it all up, take it all down, then hook my stuff back up at my house again. it would be a lot of trouble all in all if it turns out it sounds like poo.

what do you guys think?? tube condensor on a kick??

thanks for anything.

ok bye

Hey you know...I've done that. The V69 makes for a nice round sound on kick. I've used it and like it.

A couple things though, I wouldn't recommend putting in the path of the blast hole for sure. All you'll get is a popping sound. Also, since it is a large diaphram, it's going to get a lot of signal in front of a heavy kicker.

I've used it about 4' out and just at the upper edge of the kick head rim, about a foot off to one side. Watch the peaks and you'll be fine. Done it lots of times.

I've also used it in closer but more to the edge of the front head and slightly off axis. Seems to me that I didn't like it so much because I picked up more of the ringing in the shell. Further out seemed to sound a bit truer.

Either way, not a lot of isolation but a nice full sound with emphasis on the kick.

Go for it!

thatnks for the reply, it sounds promising.

ill try it out when im done tracking this and i go to hid house to track the drums.

thanks for the input!

I have done the same thing. In a couple different ways. I've used it along side a transducer speaker mic. The V69 was about 2 feet from the front of the kick and on plane.

I also moved the v69 back about 5 feet away, still on plane, and it rounded out the entire set while still representing the kick drum clearly. in fact, i should do it again :)
