V67 versus V93

How are they different? All of this talk about microphones confuses me. I think a SM-58 sounds good for vox and a 57 sounds good for guitars & most drums.
 
Well, you're right, because the 57 and 58 are both good mics.

The v67 and v93 are condensers, though, so they will give you a different kind of sound -- more accurate and detailed in most cases.

This can be good or bad, as some people will actually prefer the relative inaccuracy of a dynamic . . . it can sound warmer.

The major differences between the 67 and 93 are in the transformer output, and in the added features. The 67 has one (a transformer), while the 93 is transformerless. The 93 is relatively clean, accurate, and neutral in sound. Moreso than the 67. The 67, in my opinion, has more character or flavoring to it, though.

The 93 also has more features: bass rolloff switch and -10 pad. Plus it comes with a free shockmount. For that reason, I can't help but think the 93 is a much better deal for the money.

There are a couple of BBS users that have both and I am sure will fill you in. You can however do a search of this BBS for the info. There have been many threads with info on both. You are right the 58 is a good mic for live vox. You will find though that the 57 & 58 are pretty much the same mic other than the heads. Also, you will most likely have to end up trying the mics out first anyway. I own a v67 which I find to work very well for vocals in comparison to the ATM41a that I was using before. Good luck,

I went to Mars the other day and listened to both, and the V93 sounds better to my ears. The V67 sounded "metallic" in comparison.
 
I just talked to Marshall and they said that the v93 is a solid state version of the v77 (wich is tube) - He said the v93 is very "linear" meaning that its "not a good liar" and it doesn't color your voice -

the v77 on the other hand IS a good liar and is considered their "flagship" mic

He said that the v67 does have some coloration

After hearing this, I said: so, is coloration BAD? (he seemed to be leaning that way)

He said no its not bad, and that the room was FAR more important than the mic

P.S. This guy was on the design team and said he had a v67 at his home studio

Chessrock, I noticed on another thread that you have both. Do you think they complement each other or did you replace the V67 with the V93.
 
Well, I've just been noticing a lot more lately that the v93 has been slowly phasing the v67 out. If the v67 had some sort of bass rolloff, then I would probably use it a lot more. For my purposes, I just happen to like the idea of getting a lot of the bass-cutting chores taken care of on the way in. And the v93 has one of the best bass rolloffs I've ever heard.

Others may actually prefer to have controll over that chore, and would rather do the bass-cutting themselves with their eq after tracking. For these people, the v67 is definitely the better value.

Also, I've noticed the v67 is more of a one-trick pony on vocals. It really is, and I can't envision myself using it on anything else, although I might consider trying it out as a drum overhead or as a room mic, where I don't have to worry so much about the proximity effect. The v93 just sounds good on everything.
 
I have both and if I were to buy another, choosing between the V67 and the V93, I'd pick up another V93. Its not that I don't like the V67. Its a nice vocal mic. The V93 is just so much more versatile for me. I use it on vocals, acoustic guitars and for micing electric guitar amps.

I had been using a shure sm57 on my amps for years. One day, I decided to give the V93 a go instead and was startled by the great result. Now, I was using a Telecaster with Barden pickups into an Allen Old Flame (2x10 fender style amp) and I was cranking it pretty good. I used the pad on the mic. What I got was what my guitar really sounded like--for the first time in my life! I had tried my AT 4033 before and thought "LD condensers don't cut it for micing amps". Boy, was I wrong.

The V93 could be described as uncolored, clean and accurate. Damn! You got me thinking I should get another one quick!
 
I am quite pleased with my Marshall mics. I have the V93, V67G, and a pair of 603s'.

Chessrock is on the "money". The V93 is less hyped in the high-end spectrum compared to the V67. I used it to track saxaphone last week and was happy with the outcome.

Can anyone post a sample they have recorded with the Marshall v93 because i gotta get rid of this damn okava mk319..well actually i want a mic thats gona shine through a mix..Holla Back. PEACE
