V-neck vs regular C-neck

I had a '60 Tele Custom a million years ago. It had a soft V profile. I've been trying to get a guitar that felt like that ever since. I played that thing for hours on end.

I hate that you made me think about what an asshole I was for letting it go.

What kind of G&L are you getting? I recently bought an ASAT Junior. What a great guitar. The sound I get with it through my Ampeg M-15 is amazing.

well i don't have a reason to call muttley an asshole do i?
You didn't have a reason to call me one but that didn't stop you.

if i didn't want people to hear my music why would i put the link in my signature?
I hope everyone that reads this listens to the music on your web page. I have not laughed that hard in a long time. It sounds like you are playing the guitar with your feet. Or maybe that's just your palm on the neck technique. If you've been playing longer than a month I think you should find a new hobby. That guy trying to sing sounds like Scooby Doo after a few too many. He is so far off key that it hurts to listen to him.

I'm getting a Legacy HB in Cherryburst with a rosewood fretboard, white pickguard, and the soft v-neck.

Can't wait.

Never played a Legacy, but I can tell you from my ASAT that the craftsmanship will be terrific. It's been a long time since I've liked a new guitar this much. The field coil pickups give me a sound that's really useful and works in a lot of settings. I'd like to see pix when you get it.

My experience is that the neck profile is not that important in terms of comfort. Good luck, Whatever you decide

Congrats

but i prefer flat ibanez necks so maybe my opinion doesn't really count.

:D
Flattest.thinnest neck I've ever played was an Ibanez.I didn't like it because it was too thin.

I get my palm on the neck occasionally,it's really not a big deal.

Ouch! this thread hurts. As stated earlier "proper technique" uses only thumb pad on back of neck. That said, who the hell cares? I have excellent technique. Here's why: My second joint (not that kind)from the tip of my thumb is fixed ie. it does not move. My "pro" instructors loved the hand positioning, high praise, look at that proper hand position!!! I certainly wish I could use my thumb to play notes on the e-string ala SRV, Hendrix etc.. That written, I realy like the V shaped neck on my Tele and also enjoy my C neck on my strat. Just play each for a bit and then decide for yourself.

bullshit. we all play differently.
I agree...
Jeff Healy touches the back of the neck with his knee...puts his thumb on the fretbord, and he has incredible technique IMO

Received my GL today. It looks absolutely incredible! I like the neck so far...can't really notice the V-neck...but it's there.

I'll post pics when I can.

I've got a Jimmy Vaughn signature Tex-Mex strat with a v-neck, and it causes me no problems at all for extended playing. It's a lovely neck, for my purposes.-Richie

Wow man! Hope you feel better. I've read your posts before and found them quite informative. This one is a surprise. Give em a little slack will you?

guitar souffle'

The difference between jimi and mahavishnu is thumb placement. Maybe thats a little like saying that a souffle' is just eggs, but you may get the point. Or not. I was showing my kid how to play Chuck Berry stuff the other night and realized that you (I) cant do it right unless I have my palm against the back of the neck and my thumb wrapped over the FB. Maybe thats 'cause I learned it that way. Segovia said that it was rude to expose your thumb to an audience, but it kinda goes with the Rock-n-Roll Rebel thing don't it???

Here it is. Sorry, I don't have a great camera.

I played acoustic for years before I ever picked up an electric. My Martins have a V neck. So, when I did need an electric I found the thin C neck to be very different. Not bad, not uncomfortable, just different. I looked around and found a couple of strats here and there, with a V neck. I got an Eric Clapton model.

After playing the guitar some more, the V-neck is a little thicker than I imagined. I thought the opposite. It still plays like butter, however. I'm so glad a buddy of mine talked me into getting this instead of going with the cheapest USA Fender line. I would've paid about the same.
