OK so i just got my first version of Cubase SX and while it is very lovely, some highly irritating problems have been plaguing me, and the manual has proved useless.
a) when I start CB, and select a folder to save into 9 times out of 10 it says 'A serious error has occurred. Please try to save the song under a different name, and restart Cubase' . I hadnt tried to save it under a name at all, merely choose a folder to put it into (which incidentally was my documents/cubase/audio)

b) the times i do manage to get in, create a file, and then save it, i cant re-access it. when i try to open it, it opens up cubase and then says 'cubase has encountered an error and needs to close' or it gives me the above 'save' message.

c)from time to time, if I am looping a midi file (not a particularly big one) and I try to put 'sends' on it, it will suddenly cut all sound. i then cant get any sound back at all, even once I have turned off and disconnected said effect. the midi seems to be playing, everywhere is registering a signal, but i hear no sound..

the saving and re-accessing thing is the most irritating, any help/suggestions would be gratefully received.
many thanks

Sounds like the problems you get from using a cracked version. If it isn't then I'd try a complete clean installation because it certainly shouldn't be acting up like it is. If that doesn't work then try a clean installation of your soundcard drivers. Is it just Cubase or do all your programs have file problems?

have tried reinstalling it a few times, to no avail. will try reinstalling soundcard drivers, although I was using the ASIO one that came with Cubase.
Its annoying, because its not a version I downloaded, its an ultra cheap one i bought off ebay which turned out to be very nicely packaged, but yes, not an original version :(. Irritating because I haven't really got a leg to stand on.
yes it is just cubase with which I have this problem.

"not an original version" = pirated

That's what happens when you use cracked programs....

Thats a damn shame.

yeah. i know. i feel like a ruddy idiot, but having just spent 500 quid on a firepod, and 200 quid on furniture to get my room into a fit state to actually use said firepod, i wasnt in a financial state to spend 400 odd quid on the proper version. shame on me!

For $100 US you can get Cubase SE I dont know what the currency conversion is sorry.

Doesn't the Firepod come with a light version of Cubase?

i was told by the chap selling me the firepod that cubase se only records two tracks of audio at once, and i want to be able to record whole bands at once, ideally. make the most out of the 8 preamps, yknow.

indeed the firepod comes with cubase le, but i presumed that its not up to much, given as the reason adapted that came with my midi keyboard was fairly useless. I ideally want a setup which will allow me to do more or less anything yknow, i dont want to limit myself with lite versions of stuff. that said, at the moment i am a bit of a novice.

Cubase SE will record as many tracks as your hardware can take, up to 48. Not sure about LE, but I think it's identical or close to LE. If you're a novice, it will do a great deal more than you can (I mean that in a nice way). Uninstall your cracked programme, write it off to experience, install LE, buy an aftermarket Cubase manual like Cubase SX Power and you'll be in tracking and mixing heaven.

You'll know when you need the upgrade but I promise it will be quite a while :)

Will give it a bash. At the moment am waiting on the arrival of a firewire PC card, will let you all know how I get on! cheers

Yeah there is a lot of confusion it seems about the Cubase LE/SE stuff.

I bought a Firepod at guitar center, the sales guy told me I needed to buy SE becuase LE would only let me record 2 inputs simultaneously.

This didn't really sound right to me but i figured even if it was, it would get me by for a while until i decided on which software i wanted to go with.

If you look at the Presonus Firepod FAQ, the first question addresses the issue:
http://www.presonus.com/firepodfaqs.html

Q: Why can I only record 2 inputs at a time in Cubase LE? / Why can I only use 2 outputs in Cubase LE?
A: You can record 10 simultaneous inputs with the Firepod in Cubase LE. You need to activate the other inputs/outputs in order to use them. Go to the Devices tab, then to Device Setup. Highlight “VST Multitrack”, and select the “PreSonus ASIO” driver and “Internal” clock. Now go back to the Devices tab and go to “VST Inputs”. Expand the window to show all input busses and activate each buss by clicking on the “power button” (the button will turn blue). Now all inputs from the Firepod will be available to choose from for each track. Go back to the Devices tab and go to “VST Outputs” and activate each output buss. Now all physical outputs on the Firepod will be available to choose from as an output for each track in the software. At this point, you should be able to record from any physical input and playback out of any physical output on the Firepod in Cubase LE.

So, the version of Cubase LE that came with your firepod is legit and is totally capable of doing basic multitracking/mixing.

For the record, the only thing that SE has that LE (only avail. through OEM) does not are some MIDI features and amounts of avail. VST.

Well than let's celebrate. Sounds like Chris will be back in business. Right on!!!

I would also suggest Cubase SE or the one that comes bundled. Cracks are just bad news all around.
