How's it going!!!. I need some help on this; I´m trying to do the following with windows-based software:

1st, with what type of software (sonar, cakewalk cool edit etc.. heck! even pro tools!!!!) i can program click tracks on it (in any tempo)?

2nd. if so, how can i record/mix/synch the click track alongside a normal song (wav file) with this software, i mean, how to do it???

I´m asking this since i still don´t know how to use well an audio editor, in depth (just the usual copy/paste things).

All of the software applications you mention have "click tracks" which can be set at any tempo. Whatever tempo you record at 100bpm vs 120bpm, etc. is what dictates the tempo pf the click.

When you are in recording mode they can all play a click. What sound you use for the click (a sound card vs. a MIDI signal to an exrenal drum module, etc) is a set up feature in the software.

Normally you have the click set up to play only in record mode, not in play back, but you can do either.

I'm not sure what you mean by record/mix/sync along side a normal song?

To record a click track, First create a mono or stereo audio track (not midi) then ARM it, select the input source (where the click track is playing) Hit record and you will end up with a wave. in some softwares you may be able to record a bar or two and just loop it.
To mix different tracks you have to first create and record different audio tracks. Mostly all softwares have a mix window, use that. (read Help)
Synchronizing a click track to a song is upto the player, you cannot record a song without click and then try to put a click track and sync with the song. Use Click track while you record, and the song will be automatically in sync. I am not sure if this is what you asked for but anyway, Good Luck!

Thanks!!
Well, that´s excatly what i´m trying to do; with a normal track or song (wav file), let´s set an example, i just finished one of my bands songs or i have this U2 song, and i want to have a click track recorded into the song, so i can hear the song and the click track (all together); i´m doing this (besides for the sake of experimenting) for practicing purposes (i play drums) and i tought having a regular song with a click track recorded on it could be a good idea.

so, what's so VIP about you or your questions?

just a thought...

ahem... whats V.I.P.?

Your kinda screwed there. Click tracks are the first thing layed down and everything else is recorded in refernce to that. Even if you knew the exact temp of the song it would be likely to drift out of sync over time.

Some DAWs allow you to create a midi tempo map by 'beat sensing' similar to the way DJ mixers and modules do it. It's not foolproof and I'm not sure which DAW's do it because I've never needed to do it.
