are you asking if you can record both the sampled sound produced by the TD20 as well as recording a MIDI signal from the TD20 to sample later?
If so, then yes... That is possible...

heres my situation, i wanted to get m audio fast track pro for an interface and utilize the midi ports for my td-20. now i also would be using logic express as my daw. i understand that i can record with my td-20 [that is playing in real time]using midi and then use the virtual sounds in logic as the audio because i do understand that midi is not audio. but i also wanted to know if i can record using midi and then instead of using virtual drums from software can i get the souds from the td-20 or to utilize the td-20 sounds would i have to record using direct outs? please help :confused:

Simple answer is yes you can. Since you've already recorded the midi information, just have the DAW output (drums usually midi channel 10) it back the the TD-20. The TD-20 will play the sounds associated with the specific midi notes. Not sure why you'd ever want to use the TD-20 sounds when there are so many better samples available but hey you have the option.

I record with a TD10. I always start by recording the MIDI performance and then send that MIDI data back into the TD10. (but I do not actually track any audio up front).

This allows me to delay any final decision on what actual drum sounds I want to commit to until after I have most of the other sounds tracked. As I'm tracking other sound, I am tweaking the sounds in the TD10 to get close to what I want -but often I find that the vocal lines influence how thick or thin I want the sanre to sound, etc.
