Are you using your V-AMP into an amp? If you are thats why it sounds so muffled, the V-AMP and POD were both designed as replacements for amps - the V-AMP2 really shined once I ran it straight into my buddies Keyboard amp with a full range speaker.
Into a P.A., Keyboard amp, or for recording, those amp modelers rock. But if you run them through an amp, they always sound relatively flat and muffled. It would be like miking an AMP, then outputting that sound out through another amp instead of the P.A.
