I've owned the V-Amp Pro for about a year now. The presets aren't all that exciting to me but the box really comes to life when you start editing, changing speaker/amp combinations, etc.

If it broke I'd replace it with another one. The pod for the extra money doesn't have any more bells & whistles on it than the Behringer.

Iown the v-amp pro.Im very happy with it. if it were lost or stolen i would buy another over the pod.in my opinion the v-amp has better distortion.

Johnson J-station.

I'd like to say that from everything I've tried, I think the Johnson J-station is the most artificial sounding. Even more so than digitech.

And I've heard guys with J-station's swear by them. The key is to spend the time tweaking your modeller until you get the sound you want. I had a Digitech RP-2000 that I sold. I spent many hours on that thing trying to get a good distortion and never did. Fifteen minutes after I got a V-Amp I had a workable distortion sound. Maybe the GNX series is better but a friend has one and I've yet to hear a half way good modelled Mesa or Marshall sound out of it.

If anyone has any recordings made with a Digitech modeller post the tunes in the clinic.

Oh I'm not saying that the digitech I owned (RP300) was necessarily good (although it was almost usable with the cab modeller off and the treble turned all the way up) but I owned it around the same time an engineer was showing us a J-station and the J-station really sounded grainy in a digital way. He was showing us the rectified setting and maybe a couple others, but anything that went in wasn't pleasant to us. Additionally, I think the V-Amp and the Pod are far above the digitech.

In order of greatness*:
1. Sansamp
2. V-Amp
3. Pod
4. Digitech
5. J-Station

*From my experiences.

The sansamp was the only piece which didn't sound digital and was pretty workable (in distortion). The sansamp also costs 2 times as much as a few of those and doesn't have a single effect, nor does it have as usable cleans (in my opinion, they just don't sparkle)

Hope this helps.

To each his own. I mainly use the cleaner tones. A few years ago myself and many others compared the the J-Station to the original POD and chose the J-station. A lot of other people liked the POD better. I haven't heard the V-amp--they weren't out at the time.

Actually, I'd be happy with any of them. For $150 - $300 they are all amazing IMO. I think all of the modelers offer incredible bang-for-the-buck.

Have owned both POD Pro and V-Amp Pro. Prefered the V-Amp for a variety of reasons. Sold the POD.

Please, hard facts here:

I understand that there is a design problem with the V-Amp Pro (rack) units concerning...

1: Backup storage and battery failure.

2: Noise.

True or not?

Thanks for any actual hard info from users with real experience with these units.

I can't speak to the first issue but, yeah, the behringer has A LOT of noise on a lot of the presets.

I've found a couple relatively clean useable presets so far.

What about a real tube amp! Unless your situation doesn't afford you this convenience, a Pod XT can be quite useful. I've tried both the POd XT and v-amp and must say both are great for high gain distortion, but IMHO they don't have the subtleties(sp?) at lower drive settings as a tube amp. When I roll back the volume on my guitar, the amp models tend to lose the high frequency content more so than my tube amp.

I'm suprised with the poll so far, I can't believe the V-amp is winning.
I own the V-amp 2 and it has great sounds but to me it's slightly muffled/distant sounding. Some demos I've heard with the POD XT sound very very impressive.

I have a V-amp 2 coming, I used to have a Boss GT-3. can anyone compare those two?
I really liked the GT-3 in the begining, but eventually the sounds seemed like they were all to similiar, but you can pick them up for around $140.00 on Ebay.

I use the V-Amp Pro in my home studio, and im ok pleased with it, it performs ok, and it's nice to have the opportunities that it offers.. But i think that the VOX tonelab SE has a better sound, i would go for that one if i should buy one now.. Tech21 Tri-AC is also great for recording, but it doesn't have the many features of the others, sadly..

I did a couple of Digitech tunes a while back (Digitech does better Mesa emulations than Marshall emulations, but I use Digitech for clean stuff). When I get to the studio I'll try and upload a couple of snippets. I personally have grown quite fond of the Vox Tonelab SE. Pod XT is my pick for this thread, although the Behringer seemed OK for the price I guess (I wasn't blown away by either piece of gear).

All my tunes were done with a cheap RP200. It is very limiting and I am looking for something different. But till then I only have this..

I listened to I can't live without you..

Not bad at all. That's a killer song too, very well done. Whoa, I gave your Iraq song a spin. I've heard this before! Not bad, you should be a spokesman for Digitech man. Beats the hell out of anything I got out of my RP2000 and this just proves to me that guys need to work on getting their sound of modellers and not give up like I did on the RP2K. I wish I hadn't sold that thing now but my V-Amp is working good.

Thanks for the post

i tested out the two, v-amp pro and the pod xt, and liked the versatility of the pod more than the v-amp. i guess its pretty subjective, but i just felt more at home with the pod xt (i also had some experience with the original pod 2.0, so that could be y ;o).

the demos on the korg box are decent but i can hear digital artifacts in the first demo. the v-amp 2 i use to have had similar digital clicky underneathe problemos. the original pod 2.0 is what stays in my studio for scratch tracks. i would say with the processors in these things getting better i think the next crop of modlers should get a little closer to the real deal.
