Using Vegas as an "effects box"?

I'm assuming Vegas is the best of the S.F. lineup for this purpose.

How can I use my commuter and plugins like an effects box? I want take a line in from a guitar and/or keyboard, process the signal, go back out to an amp, but I don't want to write anything to disc.

Is there a way to do this without actually recording?

Thanks,

I saw a chapter in the n-track manual that addresses using it in this manner. Whenever I record using Vegas, I monitor the inputs to reduce "apparent latency"...

what FX are you trying to use? is it that you have a bazillion Dx plugins, and would rather not buy all the stompboxes to get the same results?

Exactly. Plus I want to play in conjunction with my mixes. Using the same effects will, I hope, give more cohesiveness to my live playing and the mixes.

Echo and chorus mainly, maybe some reverb.

Latency is a big concern?

Latency is noticeable. But only when you change the parameters for an effect. Otherwise- yeah, it works like a virtual stomp-box.

How? I can't find a word about pre-recording monitoring in the manual.

Sorry- Must be the paint fumes....

No, it doesn't!!

Only works that way for recorded tracks.

What a cheesey way to bump my post count.

drstawl, is very much correct in that statement.

The guitar track must be already recorded into the computer.

Then it could affect the track with an effect. (It is not necessary to record the affected material. But in order to put an effect on the music, it must be already recorded into the computer). ;)

I also suffer from the same type of cheesiness. :D

Thanks. I should have figured it wouldn't be that easy.

I'll try posting in either the Comp Rec or Rec Tec forum to see if anyone knows of an app that can do this.

Thanks Queue, didn't quite catch that. I'll see if I can download the manual.
