hey guys. i recently bought an aphex aural exciter type 3 and i immediately began to try it out once i got it last night. i currently record onto a korg d1600 so i ran two 1/4'' cords out from the master outs on my machine and into the 1/4'' inputs on the exciter. i then ran two 1/4'' cords out from the exciter and into the two channels that i wished to record the track + the effect of the exciter onto. this wasnt working well because i was getting a squeal from running it back into my board...am i missing something? should i have another piece of equipment to do this?
it sounds like a high pitched feedback and it does record the effects of the exciter onto the track but it also records the high pitched stuff too.

Ohh yeah, the feedback isnt just because of the exciter i did a test to find out whether it was the machine or the exciter by running a cord from my headphone out to a channel and recorded it and i still got the high pitched feedback so its not the exciter...its something wrong with my process.

if any of you could provide some insight on the matter it would be greatly appreciated thanks!!!

Well yeah - you set yourself up with a nice feedback loop.... you can't have the board's master outs going into a piece of gear then running it back into the board!

The way to put outboard gear on the master outputs is either via inserts, or from the master outs into a separate 2-track recorder.

As stated, you can't do that. It sets up a feedback loop.

oh.

oh.heh silly me! ;) well are you guys saying that i will have to buy another recording device to make something like this work? or is there another way around it?

Well... without knowing the extent of your gear, it's tough to say, but fer sure - there's no way to route the master outs back into the same board with out creating a feedback loop.

You need to make the sure the channels that your are recording on do not get routed to the main outs that you are sending to the exciter.

Why you would feel compelled to run your mix through an exciter is a whole 'nother matter that should be looked into.

im just experimenting is all. thanks for your replies guys.
