I have a yamaha MD4s minidisk 4 track, that can send and recieve MTC and Midi Clock, and only recieve MMC. Anyone know how i can control Cool Edit's transport with the real play, stop, pause etc. buttons on my MD4s?

No, but as a user of the MD-8 and CEP, well, hey, that's a GREAT question!

I've tried

I've tried getting Pro Tools Free and SoundForge to sync with my MD4 with absolutely no luck. If you guys find out how to do PLEASE let me know.

What exactly are you trying to do? Mastering to the puter or what?
What all is your set up, ie soundcard, puter info, ect?
Give some more info and I can help you out.
I link my Sony MDM-X4II and Cakewalk, Wavelab, Soundforge via MIDI all the time

Personally

The only thing I want to do is have SoundForge,ProTools whatever start recording when I press the record button on my md4. I guess I just want the transport controls on my MD4 to control my editing software.

Ok,
You need to figure out which one (puter or 4track) you want as a slave. I usually make the puter a slave.
Go into prefrences or whatever it is on ProTools (I use cakewalk sorry) and set the Midi to EXT or External. Set the 4 track to INT or Internal. Oh yeah I will tie them together via MTC.
You (Now I am guessing on the exact process but it should be around the same) need to hit record on the puter first as it is the slave. It will usually take a second or two for them to get sync'd up and it will then wait for a command from the master(4-track). Once they are sync'd hit play on the 4 track and they should play/rec together.
I do this once I have my main 4 tracks done on the 4 track and want to either add more tracks or master with the puter. My soundcard(Darla 24) only allows 2 analog ins at once so I have to repeat the process for tracks 3-4.
I hope this helps, if I confused you let me know and I will try and explain a little better.

Here's what the Syntrillium people wrote back to me

Hi, Cool Edit can be midi-triggered by sending either Midi notes or Controller numbers. To be able to control CE with your Yahama, you would have to know what controller number your multitrack is sending out that corresponds to each of it's functions. In other words, if the 'play' on your MD corresponds to midi controller 4, you would simply go into Cool Edit and go to Options>Shortcuts, select 'Play/Stop toggle' (for instance), click the Enable Trigger check box, set the midi channel, and then select the Controller box and set it to controller number 4. Controller numbers can also have 'values', though if the function is not a variable one, the value is usually defaulted at 127 (or 128 is some midi systems).

Basically, you need to find out if your Yamaha has controller numbers assigned to it's transport functions and then you can 'trigger' Cool Edit. If you are looking to Sync the two together however, Cool Edit can only act as a Slave device, and your Yamaha would have to be able to generate the necessary time code for syncing.

Dude Share it with me, Mine still wont work.

Because i still havent figured it out, The thing i cant figure out is, What My Midi controller numbers are, my play, stop, rec, buttons are on, What do u have the MD4 or MD4s i have the MD4s, but maybe the channels are the same on Both machines.

Well acutally...

I tried it using Cubase. I chose for Cubase to sync using Generic MTC... Then I put my MD4 into MTC mode and hit play and it worked! BUT... that's the only program I have gotten it to work with. I cannot find the midi controller numbers either. They're not documented in the instructions... they are also not on the web (as far as I can find).
