Using Loops in Songs

I've used a lot of loops for years in my music. Most of it from Acid packages and other things, and I must say that a lot of the loops don't exactly sound professional. I've heard other people's music that have used loops and they sound great, so what can I do to make the loops more professional. They just don't have that professional sound to them. Is there anything that people do when using loops to take some of the "loopiness" out of them. Also, is there something I can do to deaden them a bit?

Are you talking like building drum loops? I bought some samples from Farview, and tehy sound really good, and make for good drum loops for me. They don't need much processing to fit in a song. You just need to cut the ends so when it's looped, it doesn't go out of time, and have harsh starts and stops. Takes a little work initially, but once you do it a few times, it gets fairly easy.

Yeah, drums and also synth loops and some guitar stuff. What about bass? I often find bass loops and samples that sound way too lively. What can I do about that?

You might have to tame them with some compression, or eq. They are probably meant to sound really good on their own, so they can be very "full" sounding. Putting them in a mix, you might need to take out some frequencies where they step on other instruments. Panning may also help, if you haven't tried that. Don't run everything centered.
