i plugged headphones directly into outs 3 and 4 (to get stereo), and i can hear music playing but i cant seem to hear my singing or my playing through the headphones while i'm recording. what am i doing wrong?

i keep my monitors plugged into OUTS 1 & 2 while I plug the headphones on 3 & 4. i'm planning to get a headphone amp soon.

heres the way you i would do it. i NEVER plug headphones into a sound card.
and its not proper practice. take delta stereo output your mixing to into some sort of amplifier stereo line input. like a home hi fi or proper
studio amplifier with a headphone jack and plug your headphones into it.
you can also use a cassette deck as well for headphone monitoring. they are a dime a dozen for 10 bucks used. peace.

i understand that but im sure a headphone amp will work too right? what i want to know is why can i not hear my playing when using outs 3 & 4 ?? i can hear it when i use out 1 & 2 though. anyone else have this problem?

this is causing a problem because if i have to plug my monitors and headphones on OUTS 1 & 2 to hear my playing then i will have to keep plugging and unplugging from it and i know this can cause the stuff inside to wear out.

you DONt have to keep plugging and unplugging with the method i described.
as to the other outs maybe the software your using wont send to 2 outs at the same time. or maybe you need to set something up in your software.
the method i described IS the best way. ive used it for years. so have lots of
my friends.

maning recommend me a few of this device u speak of. maybe i can look it up online. thanks.

no need to spend any money at all.
if you have a home stereo. do you have monitor speakers ?
just take soundcard stereo out into line in of home stereo.
if you dont have speajkers a lot of home studios like yorkville speakers.
big bang for buck. other people like krk's and wharfdales.
by the way do you have a mixer for the mics ?
if you detail your gear list - it would help me recommend.

i need to get something i cant use my home stereo because its downstairs. i have no mixer for the mics. i have a pair of wharfedale speakers. if i get this device u speak of then i'm basically plugging the wharfedales into this same device right or how does this work/
