Using accessory receive as an input??

I have (some -- only so many cables...) of the acc send/rcv jacks from my M-520 going to a normalled patchbay. (I have e.g. a parametric EQ on that side of the setup, so it seemed convenient)

Which got me to thinking, if I have e.g. an external mic preamp/compressor, line level whatever, what would prevent me from using the accessory receive as a sort of direct in? As far as I can tell from the block diagram the acc s/r is post fader, pre-eq, pre buss assign. So all I lose is the fader meaning I'd need a way to set level at the device with some reasonable accuracy. As long as I keep it at a nominal -10dBv level, I don't see any problem. Thoughts?

I've been experimenting with something similar. I wanted to use the parametric eq's on my M-35 as an insert on my soundcraft, because the soundcraft eq's are all fixed. Even though the soundcraft is +4 and the M-35 is -10 there is no noticeable noise and it seems to work fine. But I thought I could do this through the M-35 channel inserts and cut out the other stuff but wound up having to use the direct in and outs. Not sure why. I might have to try it again.

You don't lose the fader. You lose the TRIM control and the peak LED. The RCV jack is pre-eq, pre-fade.

This is a perfectly acceptable convention AFAIC to use the RCV jack as an alternate input and is in fact prescribed by Tascam as an alternate and more direct/clean input path on page 39 of the manual.

It says that in the M35 manual too. It's a more direct and cleaner path.

You're both right of course, that's what I get for looking at the diagram at midnight!
