Used transformers

Now it's time for a really dumb question.

After all the DIY upgrades and mic building I've done I suddenly realize I have quite a few old 2:1 transformers cut out of these chinese mics. Now, I don't want to throw them away because they might be a fun project so here's what I'm wondering:

What would happen if I daisy chain two together? I'm assuming the ratio would be like a 5:1 or 8:1 transformer, correct? That could be useful in a DIY tube mic. Would it sound OK? Would I lose too much?

Think it through and let me know.

If the I/O ratio of a xfmr is 2/1 and you put another 2/1 xfmr in series after the first you should now have a 1/4 of the original signal. Give or take a little.

So if you start with 1000 ohms and drop to 500 ohms by splitting it in half and run it through another 2:1 you would end up at 250 ohms. Got it!

Then if you used a 4:1 and then a 2:1 it would be 1000 ohms down to 250, then split in half to be 125 ohms.

So basically a 2:1+2:1=4:1

A 4:1+2:1=8:1

That should have been painfully obvious to me.

Use it as a step-up and you have a simple DI.
