Hello, and thank you in advance for any help. Also, I apologize if this topic was not started in the right section on the forum.

I have a mixer with four XLR inputs and four 1/4" inputs. I'm using all four XLR inputs but would like to record with five total XLR mics. If I were to buy a preamp, like the ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp (can't post link), or one similar, could I connect an XLR mic to this preamp, and then use a 1/4" cable to connect the preamp to my mixer, thus using a total of five XLR mics at once?

Thanks for any help, and I hope I explained this in a way that makes sense.

Hi there,

Yes, you can, as long as the 1/4" input is line level, and it is on a separate channel of the mixer from your other mics.

You can't use the mic and line inputs of any given channel at the same time.

Thanks, and sorry for posting the thread. Immediately after posting I saw another thread from two weeks ago covering this exact situation. Thanks for the help!

No problem at all.
I've done that before. Those 'similar threads' at the bottom are often much more accurate than the search function! :p
